The environmental impact of a wave power project depends almost entirely on the exact structure of the wave power device. Such a structure can have a range of effects on the local habitat and the even the power of the waves hitting the beach depending on the size of the device and the material that it is made out of. For this reason, environmental impact studies are required before wave power devices are installed. In general however, wave power results in some disruption to marine life in the vicinity of the operation, but these effects tend to be minimal.
