It is the land area that catches all the rain and snow that drains or seeps into local marshes, rivers, streams, lakes, or groundwater. Watersheds can cover a few or millions of acres, and an cross state and international boards. Farms, homes, ranches, forests, large cities, and rural towns can make up a watershed. Watersheds eventually will flow into larger bodies of water and eventually the ocean.

A watershed is an area of land where all the water that flows underground and drains off the land travels to the same location. Geography is often used to create a topographical map where a watershed area would be located, since water can only flow downhill. The watershed can be a very large or small area of land, it can include large features such as mountain ranges or be as small as a hill and valley.
