What is the “water table” of a country?

The water table is the level at which the water in the ground is sitting. Think about it this way: you’re up a slope. You see a stream at the bottom of the slope. The water table for that slope is even with the stream. When it rains, the stream will rise. So will the water table. A country’s water table is like that on a much larger scale. Its easier to think of if you take a smaller country than the US, such as Germany or France. It’s what the ground water level looks like for the entire country.
