What is the “water footprint” of the average American household?

Accounting for all the details, we use more water that you would think.  Consider this – the average cotton t-shirt uses 500 gallons of water in the process of being made while each cup of coffee you drink took another 40.  We drink another 37,000 gallons of water a year individually and another 613,000 or so just from day-to-day living.  Add all that up, and do we really want to know what the average footprint is?  If you do, visit  Waterfootprint.org to get a better estimate of your impact.
