Known as the worst hail storm in the US in the 20th century is the one that hit Texas in 1995, which left 17 dead. It occured on a day which was of warm wheather, which is accounted for by the fact that there must be a warm upsweep of air that comes into contact with colder clouds. So many people went outside to the sea and were caught in the terrible storm.
The worst hail storm in terms of dollars of damage caused may have been the three-state hailstorm of April 10, 2001. Over the course of eight hours one- to three-inch hailstones pummeled a 363-mile path along Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. Twenty-two planes at Lambert International Airport were damaged, and total damages to St. Louis and Kansas City ran about 1.5 billion dollars.
