What was the worst contamination because of a landfill?

The worst result a landfill can lead to is groundwater contamination. Not only is extremely expensive to remediate groundwater contamination but it is also highly dangerous for people who drink municipal water that comes from the area. Once groundwater becomes contaminated, it takes a very long time with a lot of effort to fix the problem. Especially if the bottom dwelling aquifers also get contaminated, this would be the worst case scenario.

Other problems involved with landfills include the gathering of rodents and horribly strong odors. These pose problems in terms of property value of the surrounding area as well as personal concerns and annoyances.
