The record stands at 16 feet and 7 inches, though it was actually caught off the coast just south of California off Baja California, Mexico. Typically, the larger sharks are females and as far as geography, they tend to be in the colder waters so closer to Northern Cali.
I don;t know about the largest caught, but some of the largest great whites are located along the Farallon Islands, off the coast of San Francisco in California. Sharks frequenting the area measure between 15-20 feet long.
