    Ramifications of the Civil war were felt as far west as San Francisco, which was a major port for gold export for the Union and was reinforced to protect against a potential Confederate assault.     The furthest west was a battle in Idaho, but the biggest collection of civil war battles to the west were in New Mexico. Take a look at the map (link below) to see when they occurred and the different locations of the battles.
