The first evidence of tea go back as far as 2737 B.C. when a Chinese emperor supposedly had tea leaves blown into his cup from a wind gust.  The first major population to drink tea was the Chinese between 400-600 A.D.  These are the first evidence we have of an entire population having demand for tea; we know this because of evidence of tea cultivation.
