What was the first country to use nuclear energy?

    Technically, the first time nuclear energy was harnessed was by German chemists who emigrated to the United States in the famous Manhattan Project.  Nuclear power was first used in the form of nuclar bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    The country to use a nuclear reactor for energy purposes was the United States in 1951 in Arco, Idaho.  The US government launched the first nuclear powered submarine in 1955, the U.S.S. Nautilus.
