It is important to keep in mind that constellations were not “discovered.” They were just named. It is almost impossible to know which grouping of stars was first identified as a specific constellation because most were named before the beginning of recorded history. Orion is probably one of the older ones, however, and was named somewhere around 4,000 B.C.
