What was the first city to have public transportation?

Good question, Carter.  As you may imagine, the first cities with public transportation were in Europe, since they have been around longer.  There is evidence of experiments with public transportation in Paris as early as 1662, but the first system that was really used originated in Nantes, France in 1826 and was basically a horse drawn carriage.

    Hope this helps!

It is said the first public transportation vehicles were used in Chicago in 1848.  Before that, it was mainly a walking city with carriages used for taxis occasionally.
