There are several recent flood disasters that occurred in England in the past few summers. Assuming by “last summer” you mean 2008, you may be referring to the Morpeth Flood, which occurred on September 8 in Morpeth, Northumberland. The flood caused about 40 million pounds in damage and affected nearly 1000 buildings, most of them private residences. The main cause was an extreme rainfall event that occurred at the highest recorded level of the Wansbeck River. If you are referring to the extensive flooding in the UK in the summer of 2007, which was a much larger and more widespread event occurring in the months of June and July, the damage was closer to 6 billion pounds and affected nearly all of England. The 2007 event was the cause of the largest rescue effort in Britain since World War II.
