The Dust Bowl was ostensibly caused by a drought but was certainly aggravated by decades of farming without crop rotation, fallow fields, and practices that didn’t account for erosion. It had profound aspects on the land and the people in the area. Over 500,000 Americans were displaced from their homes. Dust pneumonia and malnutrition claimed many lives. It made it so that there would need to be many years of rejuvenation to make the land in those areas able to be farmed again.
