The biggest environmental protest of 2008 was organized by the Western Canada Wilderness Committee at the legislature in Victoria. 1,300 protestors joined hands and encircled the buildings, in support of the movement to save the remaining old-growth forests on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland and protect forestry jobs by ensuring a sustainable second-growth logging industry and banning raw log exports.
