According to simplyhike.co.uk, polartec 300 is the warmest fabric, but they may just be trying to sell you something. I have always heard that wool makes a great warm sweater or sock, I always had a wool outer sock for skiing, kiking and snow shoeing as a kid. I think additionally you want to have layers and air between the layers. Generally, say for feet, a nice thin liner and a wool sock keep your feet toasty, just make sure there is a little room in your boot so your feet breathe a little. For your body, wool sweaters or a down jacket or vest are quite warm as well.
