In comparison to the popular “muscle cars” of the 1960’s with huge engines and little fuel economy the Volkswagon Beetle may have been the most eco-friendly car of it’s time. The Beetle had a small, compact design that was easy on fuel economy. The engine was on the small side and ran of an air cooled system which had less impact then the 8 cylinder engines seen on other cars at the time.
