What is the Vatican’s position on climate change?

The Vatican’s message on climate change is that it is a result of humans “abusing God’s power”. The Catholic Church is promoting environmental friendliness by acknowledging that it is man’s duty to “protect God’s creation”.

Basically, they are all about being green.

The current pope, Pope Benedict, has made a number of statements acknowledging climate change and stating that stewardship to the environment is an important part of being a good Catholic. The basis for this belief is the idea that God created the environment, and as a part of respecting God, followers must respect his creations and care for it is best they can, which includes doing what they can to reduce climate change and promote sustainable development. In addition, in the Bible mankind is charged with caring for the creatures and plants on the earth.
