What uses less resources a pen or a pencil?

This answer depends on what type of pen or pencil you are talking about. If comparing a conventional wood pencil with graphite to a disposable ball point pen, the pencil uses less resources. Most pens are made from plastic, which is derived from oil and normally discarded after use. If the pen is refillable, however, it may actually be better in the long run. Also, the material for the pencil makes a difference as well, depending on where the wood was harvested and how far it had to be shipped. Finally, wood is a renweable resource while oil is not.
