This is when a fishing groups pretends to belong to a different group by way of using an opposing groups’ flag, or no flag at all, and in places where there are no laws set down for conservation of fish. Unfortunately, because it’s not regulated, people tend to overfish in these areas, which leads to having endangered species.
Unregulated fishing is illegal. It falls under the “IUU” which stands for illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. This can be licensed or unlicensed fisherman not complying to current laws, not reporting accurate catch amounts, or catching species they shouldn’t.
Unregulated fishing refers to fishing by vessels that do not have nationality and vessels that fly the flag of a country that is not party to the regional organization that governs the particular fishing area or species that is being fished.
