If ENERGY STAR qualified electronic products replaced the number of TVs, DVD players, and house phones, in the average American home, it would “save over 25 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to that of more than 2 million cars.” There are also electricity saving devices that claim to save between 10% and 30% on electricity costs but these are to be reviewed with caution. The best way to be more efficient with electricity use is to unplug electronics when not in use, because they will be what is called stand-by mode, and they still use energy. Even stuff that is unplugged, but not in use at all, like a battery charger, will still eat up what is called ghost electricity. So unplugging things is the best way to go.
