Over 300 species have been identified that live in hydrothermal vent habitats underwater. Many of these animals are worms: giant tube worms, ‘pencil-size’ Jericho worms, orange worms, small benthic worms, Alvinellids, and more. Smaller and stranger species of many crustaceans also live in these vent areas, such as galatheids (miniature lobsters), eye-less shrimp, clams, crabs, etc. Amongst other animals, there are also many, many species of bacteria.
