While corn is in practically every processed food we eat, from hamburgers to Coca Cola, it is actually a grain, and not a vegetable. That leaves the potato and tomato as the two most commonly grown and consumed vegetables in the world, in terms of quantity. In terms of distribution, the onion is grown in more countries than any other vegetable, so one could argue that it is the most commonly used, as well.
Technically, the tomato is a fruit, making it the most popular/consumed fruit. This leaves the potato in the top spot for most consumed vegetable.
The reason the potatoe is the most consumed vegetable is because of the French Fry.
A whopping 54 Million people per day are consuming french fries at fast food restaurants.
