I don’t think pygmies travelled around all too much. In the Congo, at least, pygmies cannot travel because they lack the documents and identity cards needed to travel. Also they may not care to travel because they receive discriminatory treatment wherever they go.
You mean do, not did — there are still pygmy people living throughout the world, in different parts of Africa, in Australia, in Asia, and more. These peoples often still live a tribal lifestyle — that translates to walking, perhaps canoe-like boats, etc., but it seems unfair to generalize about such a diverse group.
