Water lilies are a part of the genus Nymphaeaceae; there are over 35 different species of water lilies within this family. Water lilies have roots that grow in the ground of lakes or other bodies of water. However, the leaves and flowers of the water lilies float on top of the water.
Water lilies are divided into two types: hardy (lilies that bloom only during the day) and tropical (can bloom during the day or at night).
