Growing grass depends on what region you live in.  Here is a breakdown of grasses that seem to work best in each region.  Rocky Mountain and Plains states use a Kentucky Bluegrass variety, such as Colbalt, Monopoly, Belmont, Caliber, or Unique.  In the Northeast and Midwest fescue or Supernova work the best.  Southeastern’s find centipede grass takes the least upkeep.  For the Southwest try Inland Bermuda or Zoysia Emerald.  The Northwest has success with colonial bent grass or Velvet bent grass.
