Popping corn (Zea mays everta) is a slightly different type of corn than sweet corn that we usually eat on the cob. Both are types of dent corn. Popping corn has a soft starchy center and a hard shell. When heated up, the moisture in the starch expands and the kernel explodes, resulting in a soft starchy white material that is such a popular snack.
Popcorn is not only a popular snack, it’s a very healthy one. If no awful fats or unhealthy flavorings are added to popcorn, it actually can make up for a healthy food that has a decent amount of protein, good calorie intake, and naturally no fat.
