The Elodea plant contains two types of cells in its two layers. One type is smooth at cell walls and does not jet out. The second type projects out of the cell and into the surrounding environment. This second type of cell is called a spike cell. Under a microscope, you may be able to see movement of chloroplasts around the cells due to cytoplasmic streaming. This is called cyclosis. Both cell types have the cell parts of a cell wall, cytoplasm, nucleus, cell membrane, and chloroplast.
Elodea is a plant cell, sometimes also referred to as a spike cell.
