The addax has been put into a critically endangered state due to indigenous people hunting them for meat and leather. Other factors that caused their population to dwindle include lengthy droughts, mining, and harassment by tourists and desert travelers.
Also, the Sahara used to be a forested area around 5500 years ago. There is evidence of this in fossilized pollon. It was turned into a desert area due to human farming. They burned and cleared the land, and it quickly became infertile. So many forest dwelling animals could easily have died.
