Japan’s high speed rail system started at 210 km/h (130 mph) in 1964. Now, with thousands of miles of networks it reaches speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph). Some test runs performed in 1996 have reached 443 km/h (275 mph) and even up to a world record, 581 km/h (361 mph), for maglev trainsets in 2003.
