what time of the year does a lake “flip”?

Lake turnover is caused by changes in surface water temperature brought on by the progression on seasons. When a lake ‘flips’ can depend on the latitude location of the lake. Most lakes however, flip once in the fall (because of cooling temps.) and once again in the spring (due to warming temps.)
