Kentucky’s gray bat and the Indiana bat are primarily threatened by humans disturbing its caves; other threat factors for Kentucky’s gray bat are “pesticides, deforestation, and impoundment of waterways”. Likewise, human disturbance is the greatest threat to the Virginia big-eared bat. One conservationist (Nowak) has noted that “[m]inimization of human disturbance is essential for [the Virginia big-eared bat] to remain in existence”.
