The main ingredient in chewing gum is gum base (most gums nowadays) and the melting point is 115 deg. C (240 deg. F).
Most gums are made with synthetic gum base, but in the past, chicle, spruce and mastic gums were used. Gum was also derived from waxes and latex. Companies started using synthetic gum base, beucase of its availability and low cost.
Most of the chewing gum is made of of chicle, a natural latex product, or synthetic rubber known as polyisobutylene.
