The tallest species tree in Hawaii contains an individual that is thought to be the tallest angiosperm (hardwood) in North America: it is the Saligna eucalyptus, and that specimen was 276 feet high in 1980. The plant was native to Australia but was introduced to the islands by extensive planting on the part of the US Division of Forestry.
