The concept of “sustainability” refers to the ability of a long-term method to function without depleting resources. For example, petroleum fuels are not sustainable because on a long enough timeline, petroleum will run out and the pollution it causes will damage the planet. Petroleum is not economically sustainable (eventually prices for oil will go high enough to make it no longer practical), or is it environmentally sustainable (if we continue to use petroleum we will continue to damage the planet).
Renewable energy sources, on the other hand, are sustainable. We will never run out of waves and wave power does not have adverse effects on the environment. Therefore, an energy system that was based on wave power could theoretically continue to function indefinitely. It is sustainable.
Sustainable living refers to making lifestyle choices which lend themselves toward a sustainable planet.
