There are three main types of foundations used for houses today: A slab foundation, a basement foundation, and a crawlspace foundation.  A basement goes further into the ground than a crawlspace, and a slab is just a slab of concrete.  No foundation is always “stronger” than the other; however, depending on your needs and conditions, certain foundations may fit you better than others.  For example, if you have high water tables, it may not be possible to have a basement; if your land has rocks, it may be very costly to build the basement.  People generally choose their type of foundation based on the conditions of the area they are in- if built effectively, each kind will do the job!
