Static electricity is an electrical current that passes through the air from a negative source to a positive source. It occurs when one body acquires a charge differential through a greater amount of electrons than protons, this happens through friction between certain materials – if the negatively charge material comes near enough to an object charged oppositely – there will be a current arc as they move to balance the charge of both objects. This is static electricity.
