California and Florida both have an abundance of palm trees, especially compared to the rest of the United States. Different varieties grow better in one state or another; for example coconut palms are typically found in Florida. The only palm native to the Western U.S. is the California fan palm (Washingtonia filifera). Many of the species we identify with the coastal United States are in fact imported.
