According to data collected from 1971 to 2000 by the National Climatic Data Center, the driest state is Nevada. This information is for precipitation (including rainfall and snowfall). Nevada  receives an average of 9.5 inches (241) millimeters of precipitation each year. For the entire U.S. the average rain and snow fall is 30.21 inches and 767 millimeters each year, so Nevada is well below the average.
