If you’re looking for dinosaur fossils, it’s a tie between Montana and Wyoming. Each state has over 50 genera of the more than 60 known North American dinosaurs. Colorado and Utah also contain many dinosaur fossils (about 24 genera).
Lots of dinosaur and some prehistoric mammal fossil have been found in Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Texas. Montana gets the national prize for having the biggest variety of dinosaur fossils discovered: 75 different species have been unearthed within the state. Back during the Jurassic period Montana was more like Pacific coast with Florida weather, which made for a dinosaur-friendly environment.
