Camellia sinensis is the species of plant whose leaves and leaf buds are used to produce green tea along with white tea, black tea, oolong and pu-erh tea.
Green tea has catechin polyphenols, specifically epigallecatechin gallate (EGCG), which makes it a powerful antioxidant that has been purported to fight cancer and other free radical forming diseases in the body, such as, blood clots, atherosclerosis and heart disease.
