Speakeasies were created in the 1920’s as way of obtaining illegal alcohol during the Prohibition in America. These underground and hidden saloons sprang up all over the country, showing that a ban of alcohol would not stop the people from drinking. New York City supposedly had the most speakeasies at an estimated 100,000. These bootlegging joints were also called blind pigs or blind tigers and some bats still pay homage to these historical underground pubs.
