Spandex is a synthetic fiber consisting of at least 85% polymer polyurethane. It is made from chemicals that are known sensitizers, TDI and MDI, which are used as precursors of the polyurethane. TDI is a carcinogenic substance, whereas MDI is an allergic sensitizer. For this reason, strict quality control prodcedures are followed by manufacturers.
