Contrary to popular belief, giraffes do have vocal cords and are capable of making sounds. As they grow older giraffes tend to make fewer noises if any at all. As calves, however, they can make a kind of mewing sound if they are scared or feel threatened. Mother giraffes looking for their young will also bellow. Here is a video which explains the myth and shows footage of a calf mewing:
Cows moo, lions roar, and dogs bark. Giraffe noises are not as well known, but they do exist. These animals can moo, hiss, roar, and whistle.
