There are many different snake species that may occasionally feed on birds’ eggs if they come across them. However, only two genra of snakes rely on eggs as their main source of food. These are snakes in the genus Dasypeltis (which live in Africa), and those belonging to the genus Elachistodon (natives of India). The neck vertebrae of egg-eating snakes have evolved specialized projects which aid the snake in breaking through an egg shell to get at the yolk, once the egg has been swallowed.
