The three smallest known species of fish are the Schindleria Brevipinguis (known as the “stout infantfish”) measuring 7mm when fully grown, the Photocorynus Spiniceps (a type of angler fish measuring 6.2mm – the shortest fish on record) and the Paedocypris Progenetica (a relative of carp, the lightest fish on record).
The stout infantfish is the example of the world’s tiniest vertebrate, which measures the thickness of a pencil (.33 cm) and the female is only 1/18th of an inch longer than the male.
