The Slow Food movement is a counterstrike against the fast food takeover. Participants in the slow food movement aim to ensure that all the World’s citizens have access to healthy, nutritious foods, that traditional and sustainable agricultural practices are used, and that traditional cooking methods and traditional breeds and plant varieties are maintained. Along with the standard environmentalist initiatives, such as buying local, avoiding pesticides and monoculture, and growing organic, the Slow Food movement also promotes the maintenance of seed banks to store traditionally grown vegetables and promoting local traditional cuisines.
