The Slow Food movement is a movement to counter fast food and fast life. There are various organizations around the country and around the world with slightly different philosophies, however, the basic gist is that people should take the time to really research, discuss, become involved with, and appreciate their food and meals. People should take care in preparing their meals and take care in selecting food that is sustainable and healthy for themselves and the environment.
Another part of the slow food movement is the idea that healthy, sustainable food should be available to everyone, regardless of their income. In addition, the food should be produced by people who are “treated with dignity” and who are paid fairly for their work. It is a movement about eating healthier and being more aware of where food comes from and what impact it has on the planet and other people; as a result it is also interested in activism.
