What, in simple terms, are scripts and why when they don’t work do they slow my computer down?

A script is specific set of commands in a scripting language (such as Javascript)–it makes up a portion of the programming on a webpage. When a script stops running or has an error, it means that some (usually unseen or “behind-the-scenes”) internal script on a website has run out of time to complete the action that it was designed to do.
