A silt fence is a temporary barrier constructed for the purpose of retaining sediment at a construction site. It is made of a geotextile supported by posts trenched into the ground, and retains sediment by blocking flow. Silt fences protect the environment by preventing erosion, and promoting sediment control and nutrient loading in construction projects.
